Why is the City of Belmont engaging online?

    The City of Belmont recognises that community engagement can lead to better outcomes for the community and the organisation. While traditional consultation methods have often involved town hall style meetings or written submissions, the city is now moving towards a community engagement approach that is innovative, open and inclusive.

    We know that many members of our community are online, and so in addition to all our usual methods for consultation, Belmont Connect is about making it easier for you to connect with us and us with you.

    Belmont Connect is:

    • a quick, safe and convenient way to have your say on a range of issues, topics and opportunities
    • a great way to keep up to date and contribute your views on issues affecting your community
    • a way for you to see what other community members think about a topic, respond with your own views and engage in a discussion
    • a way for you to have your say without having to attend meetings so you can contribute at a time and place that suits you
    • a way of enabling a range of different people, with different views to discuss matters that impact on their community
    • a way to provide information about other engagement activities on offer with a platfrom for you to have your say.

    How can I participate in online consultations?

    If it is your first time visiting Belmont Connect, then simply click on the Register button at the top right hand of the page. When prompted, create a Username and Password of your choice, provide a valid email address and answer a few simple questions.

    If you have previously participated, click on the Sign In button located on the right hand side of the top tool bar.

    Please note: Any comments you post on Belmont Connect will appear under your username, so consider choosing a user name that is unidentifiable if you wish to comment anonymously.

    Why do I need to register?

    By registering you are able to access the full features of our site and it is a quick, safe and convenient way to have your say on a range of issues and topics.

    Registration also helps to minimise the chance of the debate being manipulated by someone leaving multiple comments supporting their own position. It also means that we can keep you up to date about important changes to a consultation process or keep you informed on future consultations.

    What happens to my feedback?

    All comments, ideas and suggestions are collated and used to inform Council decision making processes for the development of strategies, programs and activities and therefore gain insight into our community views and opinions.

    When each consultation closes, all contributions are compiled into a report, which will be presented to Council when considering the particular matter. A copy of the report will also be posted on Belmont Connect for reference, removing any identification.

    Is my privacy protected?

    YES. Your privacy is totally protected. Only the City of Belmont will have access to your contact details. Your email will not be distributed to any third party. The City may contact you from time to time using the details you have provided. If at any time you wish to update your details or unsubscribe, you can do so by using the unsubscribe option at the bottom of any of our emails.

    How are comments moderated?

    All moderation is carried out by Bang the Table, a third party organisation and all moderation is independent to Council. The moderators do not edit or alter any comments and will only remove comments deemed to be significantly off topic, offensive or malicious, in which case they are removed from the site immediately. Refer to the moderation guidelines.

    What rules apply to the online Discussion Forums?

    Participation in the on-line discussion forums is governed by terms that you are asked to agree with when you register to participate. Read the Terms of Use.

    Who can I talk to about online consultation and engagement?

    I don't use the internet very much. Does this mean I will miss out on having my say?

    Definitely not. Belmont Connect provides an exciting new way for the city to engage with our local community online. This online engagement hub will be used to complement, not replace, more traditional face-to-face or paper-based engagement activities and techniques.
