The community feedback period to inform the greening and enhancement of Gabriel Place reserve has now closed. The City would like to thank those who contributed and shared with us their vision and aspirations for the park. However, unfortunately the input received was not sufficient enough to inform a full enhancement of the park. Therefore on this occasion the City has decided not to proceed with the enhancement of Gabriel Place. The City may reconsider this in the future with further public interest.

The Our Park, Our Place project is a collaborative project aimed at reconnecting people with nature in their neighbourhood. The Our Park, Our Place project is a collaborative project between the City of Belmont, Greening Australia, The Behaviour Change Collaborative and Lotterywest. The project aims to reconnect people with nature in their neighbourhood and has a strong focus on working together with local governments in some of Perth’s most heat-stressed council areas. This project has a strong focus on working together with local governments in some of Perth’s most heat-stressed council areas to enhance the well-being of residents. One park (on the traditional lands of the Noongar people) has been chosen in each of the local government areas of Bassendean, Bayswater, Belmont and Canning. At each of these parks we will work with local residents to create cool green places through introducing more trees plantings to enhance existing green spaces.

In the City of Belmont, Gabriel Place Reserve was selected for this project. Gabriel Place Reserve, located between Gabriel Place, Acton Ave and Gabriel Street in Kewdale, has been selected as a park improvement opportunity. Through community collaboration, it is proposed to enhance Gabriel Place with additional trees, landscaping and other greenspace elements. This will contribute to increased canopy cover and provide a community informed greenspace.

Over the course of the project, Greening Australia will organise workshops for you to learn more about the unique WA environment and how take action to create a greener and more connected neighbourhood.

Please visit the Greening Australia Our Park, Our Place project website for more information about the project overall.
