Racism. It Stops With Me: Margie Oldfield
We asked Margie Oldfield, program coordinator of Team Connect what the Racism. It Stops With Me campaign means to her. Margie’s program aims to engage adolescent girls in community sport and has been running this program at Belmont City College and several other high schools for more than two years. “It means that we treat every single young person as an individual,” she says. “I think it’s really important with young people, particularly in sporting teams, where you can create a really eclectic sporting team made up of kids that come from all sorts of different places… they play as one team and they share one team.” Thanks for sharing your perspective Margie! By speaking up, we can all take a stand against racial discrimination.

Racism. It Stops With Me: Ephraim Osaghe
We asked Ephraim Osaghe, Founder of Multicultural Professional Bridge (MPB) and 2019 WAACA Social Impact Award Finalist, what the Racism. It Stops With Me campaign means to him. Ephraim has authored several migrant handbooks which guide those new to Perth through the social, economic and cultural challenges of migrating and provides associated solutions. "Don’t look at this as a black and white situation…racism cuts deep [and can occur] among people you think are same colour,” he said. The Racism. It Stops With Me Campaign “goes to the root of why we are a community... If we can resolve the issue of racism at an early age, I believe we’ll hit a very valuable portion of this campaign.” Thanks for sharing your perspective Ephraim! By speaking up, we can all take a stand against racial discrimination.
Racism. It Stops With Me: Kathy Warren
Racism. It Stops With Me: Kathy Warren
We asked Kathy Warren, a former local resident and member of our Cultural Diversity Advisory Group what the Racism. It Stops With Me campaign means to her. Kathy has been a teacher at Belmont City College for more than 15 years. “You see students from different ethnic backgrounds in their friendship groups and they all just blend in together. It’s not unusual to be from somewhere else, it is the normal… and so everyone accepts it.” We should look to “what people are” as it’s “not what they look like or where they’re from that counts, it’s who they are as a person and the kids are really good at doing that.” Thanks for sharing your perspective Kathy! By speaking up, we can all take a stand against racial discrimination.
