The Faulkner Civic Precinct is the civic heart of the City of Belmont and encompasses the area bounded by Wright Street, Abernethy Road, Alexander Road and Robinson Avenue (more commonly known as Faulkner Park).
The precinct comprises the City’s Civic Centre, community facilities and major recreation facilities. It is central to employment, shopping, entertainment, education and residential areas.
The long term vision is to reinforce the precinct as the centre of Belmont; a vibrant and active place that all members of the community can enjoy and participate in.
Results of a community survey identified a need for spaces for both active and passive recreation, community events, upgraded facilities for the community and the consideration of restaurants and cafes within the precinct. The Master Plan ensures that these key elements are included.
Some of the key components of the Master Plan include:
- The closure of Progress Way to improve pedestrian movement and facilitate the development of larger open spaces
- The creation of a large, open event space in the centre of the precinct to facilitate community events
- The development of a civic plaza
- A new multi-function Community Centre that will accommodate the library, senior citizens centre, museum, office spaces for not-for-profit organisations, crèche and café.
- Improved spaces for picnics and barbecues
- Improved spaces for active recreation
- Upgrade of existing facilities such as the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, the skate park and the library to provide more functional spaces.
Expressions of Interest from Not-for-profit Community Service Organisations are currently open. Please complete the survey.

Community Centre EOI Not-For-Profit Community Service Organisations
The City of Belmont is commencing work on the development of a multi-purpose, cross generational, community centre in the Faulkner Civic Precinct. The facility is expected to be operational in early 2019.
Services to be provided from the multi-purpose
community facility will include: a public library; a senior citizens
club/meeting place; the local history museum; digital hub for music and oral recordings;
other public meeting spaces, including a community kitchen; café; and office
space for not for profit organisations (NFP).
The third floor of this facility will be exclusively available to NFPs offering community/human services to people in the City of Belmont and surrounding areas.
To assist the architectural design of the third floor, the City is calling for Expressions of Interest from not-for-profit groups, to understand the level of demand and the functional and operational requirements of interested groups.
If you are interested in using space/s in the third floor, please complete the Expression of Interest survey.
Please note that completion of this Expression of Interest does
not constitute a commitment of any kind from the applicant or the City of
Belmont. All responses will be treated as confidential, and only the collective results from all respondents will be reported.
Expressions of Interest close 11 March 2016.
