Help shape the future of the City’s infrastructure

The City of Belmont is custodian to a significant infrastructure portfolio, including roads, footpaths, parks, playgrounds and community buildings that are used by our community every day.

With a value exceeding $800 million and in the context of population growth and environmental change, a clear and financially sustainable plan is needed to ensure these assets continue to meet community needs.

The City's Asset Management Strategy ensures the decisions we make today are affordable in the long term, helping us care for our City for generations to come. We are now seeking your feedback on the Asset Management Strategy (AMS) 2026–2031.

What does the Strategy include?

This Strategy acts as our roadmap for the future. It marks a transition from relying on reactive maintenance to a more proactive system that uses data and risk management to look after our City and its assets.

The Strategy includes the following:

  • Our asset base

A snapshot of the infrastructure the City currently owns and the current condition of those assets.

  • Future demands and key drivers

An analysis of the real world challenges that the City faces including a growing population, shifting community demographics and the impacts of climate change.

  • Focus areas

Outline core focus areas to improve our internal governance, make smarter data driven decisions and ensure that our capital projects are linked to both community feedback and technical condition and safety data.

Strategy purpose

This Strategy has been built around three core outcomes that will bridge the gap between the aspirations of our Strategic Community Plan (SCP) 2024-2034 and the operational delivery of our Asset Management Plans:

  • Looking after what we own

To implement a structured, evidence-based management framework that ensures consistency and transparency in how we invest, renew, and maintain our assets

  • Making smarter, data-led decisions

To improve the confidence in our data, manage risks associated with our asset base and elevate our maturity levels in alignment with ISO 55000 international standards and national best practice framework.

  • Delivering value for money

To balance the delivery of high-quality service levels through sustainable financial decision making ensuring we optimise lifecycle costs to deliver the best possible value for our community.
