Shovels are ready on Belvidere Street, with the City of Belmont set to commence works on a major $9.5 million transformation of the precinct.

The project will deliver new landscaping, improved public spaces and upgraded infrastructure, in a significant renewal of one of the City’s key local hubs.

City of Belmont Mayor Robert Rossi said the project reflects what the community has been asking for over many years.

“I’ve had countless conversations with locals about Belvidere Street. People have been asking for this for a long time.

“For me, this isn’t just about upgrades. It’s about listening and making sure our community feels heard and proud of their area.

“Our community deserves what others already enjoy across Perth. I want Belmont to be right up there with the best, if not better.

“We’re not just fixing things for today, we’re building something that will last well into the future for our community,” said Mayor Robert Rossi.

The project has been jointly funded by the Australian Government and the City of Belmont.

The Australian Government contributed $4.745 million through its Thriving Suburbs Program.

Ms Zaneta Mascarenhas, Federal Member for Swan, was pleased to see works starting on Belvidere Street.

“Works starting on Belvidere Street mark the beginning of real change for Belmont.

“More trees, better crossings and slower traffic will make it safer and easier to get around every day,” said Ms Mascarenhas.

Belvidere Street has served as an important community and business hub for more than 50 years and continues to play a vital role in the local economy.

The transformation will create a more people‑focused main street, better balancing traffic movement with street activity, while improving safety, accessibility and long‑term economic outcomes.

The final design has been shaped through extensive community engagement, with feedback from residents, businesses and stakeholders helping to inform the project.

Works will include new landscaping, additional street trees and a range of upgrades designed to create a greener, more inviting streetscape.

Together, these improvements will support existing businesses, encourage people to spend more time in the area and help attract future private investment into the precinct.

Works are scheduled to begin in April 2026.
