We’re transforming the Brearley Avenue drain into a living stream where people, plants and wildlife can thrive.
The Brearley Avenue Living Stream project will re-naturalise a section of drainage infrastructure located south of Brearley Avenue Reserve.
The project will transform an open stormwater channel into a living stream with the installation of 100 new trees and more than 40,000 plants.
Project area
This Living Stream project is being delivered in the western portion of Brearley Avenue Reserve, Redcliffe.
The 2025 works are limited to the section between First Street and the Great Eastern Highway, incorporating a 200m section of the Water Corporation’s Airport Southern Main Drain (ASMD).
The project will re-naturalise the banks and adjacent landscape, replacing grass and weeds with a diverse range of native species, covering a total project area of around 5,500 sqm.
Flowering groundcovers, shrubs and trees will create valuable habitat and connectivity for local wildlife and enhance the visual amenity of the wider reserve.
Project funding and partners
The Brearley Avenue Living Stream project is part of the Assets for Liveability Program delivered by Water Corporation in collaboration with Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER).
The project is delivered with the support of the Urban Greening Grant Program delivered by WALGA and funded through the Government of Western Australia.
