Faulkner Park closed for Ornamental Lakes Renewal project

23 October 2024

Exciting enhancements are on the way for the Faulkner Park Precinct as the Ornamental Lakes Renewal project kicks off.

The ornamental lakes, located in Faulkner Park, were originally built in 1970 and serve as a compensation drainage basin for the Water Corporation's South Belmont Main Drain.

The existing infrastructure is due for renewal and replacement, providing an opportunity to improve the environmental quality of the lakes and create a vibrant meeting point for the community to connect with nature.

Guided by a water sensitive design approach and community feedback, the renewal works will replicate a natural wetland, providing increased habitat for local wildlife, improved water quality and increased native planting.

The design also includes new public amenities so the community can come together to enjoy their new surrounds. These include new picnic settings and shelters, a timber boardwalk over the lake embankment, pathway network and increased lighting and CCTV.

Existing infrastructure, including the war memorial, gazebo and 'Six Seasons' sculptures around the project site have been integrated into the design and will be protected while works are underway.

Works will commence in late October and are anticipated to continue until early April 2025. Pedestrian detours will be in place while works are underway, and regular updates provided via the City’s website and Belmont Connect.

Access to Volcano Playground, Progress Way and the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre car park facilities will not be impacted by the works.
