New structures taking form at the Ornamental Lakes renewal site

16 May 2025

The Ornamental Lakes Renewal project is moving ahead with several new structures underway across the site.

In addition to the new shelters positioned around the lakes, the structural frames for the viewing decks are nearly complete and installation of the timber slats has begun.

An iconic component of the original design, the new pedestrian bridge is now complete. Maintaining its original look, the new bridge incorporates bricks from the old structure as a nod to the site’s history.

Revegetation of the lake is also underway, with trees carefully planted across the site to provide habitat for local wildlife. Planting will continue across the coming weeks.

The City is working closely with the project's fauna expert to monitor the plants and establishment of the new vegetation. This careful approach ensures there is enough cover and protection for returning animals, and supports the re-introduction and release of the South-western Snake-necked Turtles once the environment is ready.

The community can also look forward to electrical upgrades such as lighting, wider coverage of CCTV, updated pathways, improved accessibility, and the new amenities including bench seating, and bike racks.

The project is on track for completion in June 2025.
