Garvey Park 'Section 2' foreshore stabilisation and landscaping works

We’re restoring the riverbank and caring for the public amenities along a 330m section of the Garvey Park foreshore.

The riverbank located between Ascot Kayak Club and Hilton Grove (Section 2) is facing erosion issues, and requires stabilisation works to protect the foreshore and restore the natural area.

With erosion impacting the existing infrastructure, we're using this opportunity to improve and future-proof the surrounding amenities for the community to enjoy.

The works are being undertaken in close consultation with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attraction to ensure protection of our natural assets and local wildlife.

Project scope

The stabilisation works include removal of existing timber walls and installation of limestone block walls and rock revetments.

Works will also include installation of a floating jetty, new footpath and walkways, a grassed recreation area, and expansion of the existing carpark.

Community feedback

We invited community feedback on the stabilisation and landscaping works to ensure the final design continues to align with the values and needs of the community.

The feedback period was open from August to September 2024, with the below themes emerging:

  • Importance of well-lit, safe pathways and dedicated access to the River
  • Location of ACROD parking bays and universal access to the Ascot Kayak Club
