Miles Park Outdoor Exercise Equipment

We understand our local community value outdoor exercise equipment as it provides a free and fun alternative to be more physically active.

We've received requests for outdoor exercise equipment at Miles Park, so are seeking feedback from the wider community to gauge the level of support and interest.

The feedback you and nearby residents provide will help guide the next steps of the project.

Submissions for the feedback survey have now closed.

Proposed Equipment Location

Due to limitations of space around the reserve that accounts for flexibility for sporting activities and spectators, the location of the outdoor exercise equipment is proposed within the following space identified below.

This site was selected as the preferred location due to:

Shade options
Visible for park users and their safety
Close to car park
No conflict with sporting clubs and community centre users.

Exercise Types and Design

Our community survey refers to a variety of possible outdoor exercise equipment types.

Below is an overview of the exercise and equipment types to help inform your answers to the survey.

Strength

Weight based or resistance-based exercise, helps to increase bone strength and muscular fitness, as well as maintain muscle mass. This type of exercise helps by increasing overall strength, making everyday weight-bearing activities easier.

Typical outdoor strength equipment can look like:

Cardio

Involves continuous movements with large muscle groups and increases the heart and respiratory rate e.g. running, walking, jumping jacks.

Typical outdoor cardio equipment can look like:

Street workouts / Calisthenics

Is a form of strength training that uses the resistance of body and gravity such as pull ups, push ups, dips, squats and can incorporate dynamic movements.

Typical outdoor calisthenics equipment can look like:

Flexibility

Flexibility enhances the range of motion of muscle and joint movements and assists in the prevention of injuries.

Typical outdoor flexibility equipment can look like:

Stability

Stability exercise, such as balance, agility and core training, targets muscular connections to the spine, pelvis and shoulders for greater control and posture during movement. enabling them to work more effectively to protect the back and reduce the risk of falling.
