Improving parking in The Springs
Starting in 2024, we conducted a parking review to improve street parking in The Springs.
The parking review considered community feedback relating to localised parking concerns, including:
- Use of street parking as long-term residential overflow parking
- Turnover of street parking bays
- Turnover in Cracknell Park carpark
- Illegal verge parking, causing damage and loss of amenity
- Unauthorised parking on vacant land.
Parking review aims
-
-
Reduce verge and road damage
-
Control illegal parking
The parking review did not explore introducing resident parking permits or paid parking. Neither will be introduced.

What we're doing
Following on from the feedback we've received from our community, and our review of parking in The Springs, it's clear that action is needed to improve turnover of public parking bays and prevent unauthorised verge parking.
We understand that public parking in The Springs is a shared resource, and different users have different needs. Our goal is to balance these needs fairly and ensure that public parking remains available for residents, visitors, and businesses while protecting the streetscape and preventing extended long-term private useof public parking bays.
To achieve this we will be implementing the following measures:
-
Verge upgrades
We will introduce landscaping and other measures designed to prevent unauthorised parking and enhance the streetscape.
-
Parking time limits
We will introduce time restrictions to ensure that parking bays are available for more users througout the day.
-
Optimise parking bays
As we can't create more parking bays, we will optimise existing bays by re-marking them and marking unmarked bays.
