Winter Night Lights returns in 2026

18 May 2026

We've turned the training lights on at sporting reserves across the City with the return of our Winter Night Lights initiative.

The popular initiative is designed to encourage residents to continue being physically active during the winter months when the sun sets earlier.

By extending the lighting period at key reserves, residents can exercise at a time that suits their lifestyle, while feeling safer and more connected in shared public spaces.

Winter Night Lights is continuing from May to September 2026 with training lights being left on from 5:30pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday at the following reserves:

  • Forster Park
  • Peet Park
  • Centenary Park
  • Redcliffe Park
  • Wilson Park Basketball Court

The initiative was first trialed in 2024 and returned in 2025 after receiving overwhelming support from the community and a demonstrated increase in active recreation over the winter period.

During formal sports training sessions, please use areas that are not in use by our local sporting clubs.
