One year on: Garvey Park's bushland transformation

25 March 2025

One year on from the project beginning, the 1.6 hectare revegetation site at Garvey Park has transformed.

Planting began in June 2024 with a Community Planting Day, where volunteers joined the City's Environment team to plant nearly 3,000 native trees, sedges and groundcovers across underutilised grassland.

Almost 17,000 tube stock have been planted so far, and the visible growth over the past 12 months is clear to see.

Before-and-after photos show just how much the landscape has changed in a short time, as the project continues to take root and support biodiversity in the area.

A further 18,000 plants will be added this winter to continue building a structured landscape of canopy, midstorey and understorey layers.
