About the artwork

Yondee Shane Hanson Artist Talk

The public artwork integrates art into the existing landscape designs outside the Wright Street entrance of Belmont Hub.

The design is based upon an original painting by Noongar artist, Yondee Shane Hansen, titled ‘Six Seasons’.

The striking artwork represents the six Noongar seasons and the connection these have to the natural environment and Noongar People as well as the importance of this knowledge to understanding and management of Country.

The artwork including the design, colour and patterning will be etched and stained across surfaces in the front entrance of Belmont Hub including the planter box and access ramp that connects to Wright Street.

The second part of the installation is a 3D sculptural work that sits within the concrete planter and includes 6 laser cut aluminium panels, each representing a season, placed around one central piece.

In both the 2D and 3D elements each season is represented by a different colour based on ochres.

The second phase of the artwork will include an etched design in the paved area outside Belmont Hub, connecting the planter and the access ramp with the entrance to Belmont Hub.

The artwork has been commissioned by the City of Belmont, was chosen by the Public Art Advisory Panel through a competitive selection process and is funded through the City’s commitment to Public Art.
