City of Belmont opens revitalised Wilson Park

5 February 2026

The City of Belmont reopened Wilson Park’s Heart + Playground after a major nine-month transformation.

The upgraded park in Rivervale now features nature-inspired play equipment, a modern pump track, comfortable gathering areas, and quiet spots for reflection.

The design celebrates the City of Belmont’s heritage and ensures accessibility for all, with wheelchair-friendly paths and sensory-friendly play zones.

Locals can enjoy new places to play, sit, reflect, and meet with friends and loved ones.

To celebrate, the City is hosting an official opening event on Sunday 15 February, welcoming all locals to explore the new facilities and experience firsthand how Wilson Park’s transformation brings people together.

Mayor Robert Rossi said the Heart + Playground is about more than equipment, it’s about community.

“Our families and children deserve the very best, and I believe we have delivered on that.

“You no longer have to drive out of the City to find a great destination playground.

“Wilson Park is now a place where kids can play, explore and be kids, while families gather, connect and enjoy the space together.

“Seeing it being used and enjoyed day and night makes all the hard work worthwhile,” Mayor Rossi said.

The project’s success was built on support from all tiers of government, jointly funded by the City of Belmont, the Australian Government and the West Australian Government.

The project cost over $8 million. The Australian Government contributed $2 million through its Investing in our Communities Program.

"As a mum, I know how important it is to have fun and vibrant spaces where kids can play, be active and feel included. Thanks to funding from the Albanese Government, Wilson Park is now a place where families and neighbours can come together, build community and make lasting memories," said Ms Zaneta Mascarenhas, Member for Swan.

The State Government, through Lotterywest also contributed $2 million, recognising the park’s role in strengthening local connections.

“This project truly brings people together. Lotterywest’s support is about fostering social connections and a sense of belonging and Wilson Park is now a place where everyone can feel at home,” said Ms Cassie Rowe, State Member for Belmont.

The Heart + Playground is the second zone of the Wilson Park Precinct to be transformed and was inspired through community consultation which highlighted a desire to make Wilson Park a centrepiece for connection, fun and inclusion for the local Rivervale community.

This transformation is part of the City of Belmont’s ongoing commitment to upgrading playground spaces across the community. In recent years, the City has invested significantly in creating inclusive, safe, and engaging play areas, with more projects planned to ensure every neighbourhood has access to high-quality recreational spaces.
