• Zone 2b: Clubrooms and public facilities

Exploring opportunities to develop and integrate the netball clubrooms and public toilet facilities into Zone 2: The Heart + Playground

Wilson Park Zone 2b is a component of the Wilson Park Master Plan identified during the planning stages of Zone 2: The Heart + Playground.

During the design development process for Zone 2, the City identified an opportunity to integrate the clubrooms, public toilets and amenities into the Wilson Park Master Plan.

These facilities were designated as Zone 2b of the Wilson Park Precinct.

Exploring opportunities to develop the clubrooms and public amenities

The Wilson Park clubrooms, also known as the Robinson Netball Centre, were initially constructed in 1988. They are owned and maintained by the City and leased to local sporting clubs on a seasonal basis.

The clubrooms are currently home to the Belmont Netball Association, and include a main hall, administration, change rooms, public toilets and kiosk.

  • Meet the current and future needs of sporting clubs and community.

  • Meet contemporary sporting standards and guidelines for facility design.

  • Enhance the connection with surrounding public space and Wilson Park Master Plan design.

Opportunities for development

In 2024, the City engaged Sporting Consultant, Otium Planning Group, to assess whether the Wilson Park clubroom meet the needs of netball and other sporting group, how well it currently functions, and what opportunities are available for development.

This process included:

  • Analysing planning, strategy and guideline documentation from sporting organisations and government bodies.
  • Consulting with key stakeholder groups to understand their needs, clubroom usage and future requirements.
  • Developing facility specifications based on needs and industry benchmarks
  • Developing site options and location for future development

Optioneering and business case

The City has identified three pathway options for future development of the clubrooms and facilities. The options include a low intervention, moderate intervention, and high intervention approach to suit user needs.

A high-level sketch has been prepared for each option to demonstrate how the intervention approach would address the spatial and functional needs of users.

The three options will be included in a business case and presented to Council for endorsement of a preferred option.

  • Option 1

    Minor refurbishment

Minor changes to the existing facility including selective demolition and material upgrades.

  • Option 2

    Expand existing facility

Renovation of the existing buildings including additional rooms and moderate reconfiguration of internal layouts.

  • Option 3

    Rebuild new facility

Demolition of the existing facility and replacement with a new contemporary clubroom building.

Options feedback

We're gathering high-level feedback from clubroom users to better understand how each option aligns with the needs and strategic direction of sporting clubs.

A series of sketches have been prepared to demonstrate how the facility specifications could be incorporated into a future design. Full design development will be undertaken after an option is endorsed by Council.

Feedback on each option should consider:

  • Overall impression
  • Suitability of the facility for day-to-day use
  • Amenities available
  • Accessibility and inclusion
