Wilson Park Precinct is located in Rivervale and bound by Francisco Street, Surrey Road, Kooyong Road and Campbell Street. The local cul-de-sac Gerring Court and Jupp Lane run through the precinct, and provides access to residents, businesses, and shoppers. The Precinct is currently used for recreational and community based activities including netball courts, clubhouse and facilities, an oval, a community centre, playground and a Water Corporation drainage basin.

The netball court upgrade is Zone 1 of the Wilson Park Precinct Masterplan and includes removal and replacement of the existing pavement and installation of a new acrylic surface, removal of existing lighting towers and installation of new energy efficient LED lighting, multi-purpose court and hit up wall to enable wider community use for other physical activity options, minor landscaping and fencing.

The Netball Courts are approximately 40 years old and have reached the end of their useful life causing an uneven surface with the potential for slip, trip and fall hazards. The facility no longer meets the needs or standards for its primary user, the Belmont Netball Association, nor the wider community’s expectations and is being upgraded to meet current playing standards.

At the Council meeting on 24 May 2022 Council awarded Tender 05/2022 to MG Group WA Pty Ltd for Wilson Park Netball Court Upgrade for the lump sum of $2,287,240.17 excluding GST.

During the construction period the netball courts will be closed to the public. There may also be some disruption to access for park users at intermittent times during the works. The footpath will be closed to pedestrians on the eastern side of Surrey Road and the southern side of Campbell Street pedestrians will be redirected to a safe route. There are no road closures.

Construction will commence in late September 2022 for approximately 6 months finalising in March 2023.

The City is progressing project planning and design for Zone 2 – the Heart & Playground of the Wilson Park Masterplan. Further information will be provided to the community as the design development progresses.
